The Wonders of 2

dual monitors

Every since Microsoft came out with the Windows operating system, my productivity has increased tremendously. Windows gave me the ability to multi-task by working various applications in different “windows” at the same time. But, as I got more and more proficient, I felt I had hit a ceiling as to how productive I could be. I had to constantly be switching from one window to another in order to get my work done. This was especially true if I was passing information between two applications. What I needed was more screen “real estate”. One option was to go out and purchase another larger and more expensive monitor to replace the existing one or get a smaller and more affordable one that could spread my work out. I chose the latter. Having 2 monitors provided the additional space for getting my work done more efficiently. I am now able to keep more windows visible at the same time. Here are some of the advantages of using multiple monitors.

  1. Email and Instant Messaging.
Having your email and instant messenger windows on the second screen allows you to focus on your work on the main screen and view any new messages that come in without switching to another window.

  2. Online Research.
Use a web browser on one screen and a notepad or some editing application like Office Word to take notes on in another screen.

  3. Digital pictures editing.
View pictures on one screen using thumbnails and the other screen for full-sized previews.

Using the additional monitor has helped me tremendously. It should help you too. If you are interested, the link below explains how to connect a second monitor to your PC. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself, give KCG a call and we would be happy to get yours connected. Enjoy!
